Type Project

I have just completed the next project on my course about Type. The brief was to promote a Book which involves type for Waterstones. I have researched into Type designers current and historic, and have applied my research to creating a cover for my chosen book 'Just My Type' by Simon Garfield. I have experimented with different techniques both on the Mac and by hand to create my final outcome.

I have learnt new processes in this project such as Photograms which were produced in the dark room. I really enjoyed learning how to produce Photograms and was amazed at the outcome. I would definitely  like to produce more outcomes using this process as i found it very interesting and it produces amazing outcomes.

When drawing up thumbnail designs for my final outcome, i tried to think of how to promote the book 'Just My Type' and i thought of what is thought of with this saying. This led me to theme of love and relationships, and decided to create a flower out of the letters of the alphabet as to keep it related to type.

Here are 2 examples of my outcomes for this idea. I started with the design on the left but decided the pastel colours were too child-like and girly for what the book is. I then developed this design and ended up with the design on the right which i feel is a lot more sophisticated but still keeping the flower design made up of the letter C. I am very happy with my outcome and will develop it up more to create a booklet as well as a poster.
